Vision Special Edition - Henry Orren Merren "Raising the Bar"

Uploaded on Feb 5, 2016

'Raising the Bar' - All too often we hear of our Caymanian people not being qualified enough. This is one interview that highlights an individual to which such a statement could not possibly apply.

Mr. H. Orren Merren is the type of individual that once you meet him, you will never forget him. For he leaves you with such an astounding presence and sense of purpose.

This extraordinary Caymanian Gentleman has certainly made his mark. Be-it in the field of Law (holding a LLM degree in International & Comparative Law from Georgetown University, an MBA in Finance & International Business from George Town Washington University, an LLB (Honours) from the University of London, a Barrister-at-Law from Inns of Court school of Law and a AB with Distinction from the University of Michigan) having being called to the Bar, first in 1975 in England & Wales, in 1976 in the Cayman Islands, and yet again in 1981 in the District of Columbia, Washington DC, USA.

He has served this country in numerous positions on various Government Boards from 1985 - 2013 - as Chairman of the National Pensions Board, on the Board of Governors of UCCI, member of the Board of Directors of Triple C school, Trade & Business Board, as Vice President of the Caymanian Bar Association.... the list is almost endless.

From 1984 - to present he has served in many professional Capacities; such as Legal consultant for the Cayman Islands Government, Turtle Farm and the Cayman Islands Monetary Authority (CIMA) to being on the General Counsel for the Turtle farm and Cayman Airways.

He has had many publications dating back from 1982 on 'British Merchant Shipping Series to most recent in 1995 on the Cayman Islands Offshore trust: The Comparative Law Yearbook of International Business". There seems to be no end to this Gentleman's contributions. If you hazzard to think that it stops there,  we have only to type OR think of the Cayman Islands KY domain and yet again this man's hand has played a very significant roll in it, working along with Government Computer Services Department to give the Cayman Islands it's own unique identity, setting up the first server to house this project in a closet in his office.

When we think that this has been an awesome effort on Orren's part there is more. Mr. Merren is one of the founding members of the Caymanian Bar Association, which was set up to give young Caymanian Lawyers a chance in the legal system. Fighting for his people to succeed has been one of his key goals in life.

Always looking to uplift and inspire those who could not help themselves has been Mr. Orren Merren's plight in life; A lesson learned from a young age having to watch his Mom struggle with personal legal issues; an experience that set the course on Orren's journey of selflessness. Moving on, improving one-self, the community around you and always, ALWAYS reaching out with a helping hand to others.
