J. Robert Bodden born to a Trinidadian mother and Caymanian Father shortly after World War II, is an extraordinary Caymanian Gentleman, one who never hesitates to speak what is on his mind, always seeking justice for those persons who do not have a voice or are afraid to speak for themselves.
Robert’s father (like many Caymanian men at that time of the war) was stationed in Trinidad where he met his wife and after the war was over he returned to Cayman with his new wife and first born son Carlton, here they had another child, Robert.
Life in Cayman was just beginning after the war, so Robert’s father went out to sea, leaving his wife and two young boys. Thus began the life of Robert. From a young child moving back and forth between Trinidad to Cayman and eventually settling with his Grandmother who raised the two young boys for most of their young lives.
Robert shares the early years with us, telling of the young man unable to finish his education, but never letting the lack of schooling stand in the way of his education. From building many successful businesses, to owning his own piece of George Town’s Real Estate, to running for office, standing firm on his beliefs and never being swayed from his Christian heritage and spiritual development to marrying and raising three wonderful sons of his own.
Mr. Bodden is truly a man to be admired, one who stands firm in his beliefs, speaks his mind and never gives up, always learning and improving himself no matter the age. He speaks with a caring heart and astute mind. When you hear him speak, with such honesty and clarity is draws you into the core of the man. His history teaches us to never give-up, never back down; keep pushing ahead, for there is a way ‘round every obstacle….
