Heart Talk with Steve McField (Government: Vestry System, JPs, Comm., Taxes & Local Militia - Part 13 of 14

Uploaded July 29th,2015

Before the the current parliamentary system that we have today our parliament consisted of Justices of the Peace and Vestry Men. Making up a total of 48 persons serving a population of roughly 7 to 8 thousand individuals in the Cayman Islands. The Parliament first was held the at the Pedro St. James and then move to George Town an established itself in the building of which we know now as The Cayman Islands National Museum.

Taxes and Militia were also a part or our history. Mr. McField talks of a time in our past when women were not able to vote, men could vote if you paid your taxes and if you were considered a freed-man; to the evolution of Government as we know it today.
