Heart Talk with Steve McField (Communication, Mail System & Special Constables)  Part 11 of 14.

Back in the days before home phones were made available in the Cayman Island, people received their messages via the Cable System which came through the Wireless station connected to Jamaica and then the outside world. The Message was typed and delivered direct to your home via messengers. Imagine if you needed to make a call to other districts you had to go to the Post Office where one ring would get you to Bodden Town and two rings to East End. People would send message via horseback and donkeys to family members in other districts.

In the late 50s Cayman had only a small contingency of Police officer totaling 9 members headed by Major Roddy Watler and William 'Bill' McCoy, who when he arrested you, tied you to his horse and escorted/walked you to jail.
