In the late 50s and early 60s the Cayman Islands opened its doors to the world. One of the proponents of this was telecommunication brought into the country by the British who were extending their services throughout the British caribbean at the time. Cayman rapidly grew from the Islands time forgot to a multinational community. Mr. Steve McField local attorney and Historian talks about life before telecommunications and when Cayman was lost to the world.
Caymanian women were hired to fill the jobs as our men went away to sea with the large shipping companies leaving a void in our employment sector. Therefore the women stayed at home, sought higher education and filled a void left in our industry. As banking and government was emerging the Woman were employed, who later went on to hold the top positions in the Country. As the men came home from sea they found a thriving community with their wives steering the helm on the land based ship.
Caymanian women continue to hold top positions in many industries until this day.
