Grouper Moon Project — Guess How Many Fish?
Help us monitor the aggregation site on Little Cayman by estimating the number of fish you see in this video!
As part of REEF's Grouper Moon monitoring program, scientists take video pans of the aggregating Nassau grouper that are later analyzed by counting the number of fish in the pan. This method is one of the ways we estimate the population size of the aggregation and track the local recovery of the species.
But it's not easy! Try it, and see for your self! Please watch this video pan (taken Feb. 15, 2014), and make a count of all the fish you see. When finished, post your estimate in the comments section of this video. DONT LOOK AT WHAT OTHERS HAVE ESTIMATED BEFORE DOING YOUR OWN COUNT! We are interested in getting unbiased estimates from multiple people so that we can get a better understanding of the uncertainty in the video pan counts.
