About Us
The Department of Immigration has two central functions: to protect our borders and to manage migration to the Islands. In performing these functions the Department and its officers, acting under the authority of the Islands’ immigration legislation, are responsible for controlling entry and stay in the Islands and for the processing of applications for work permits, permanent residence and many other categories of residence.

Decisions on applications are generally made by independent Boards (see video on Immigration Boards), though the Chief Immigration Officer and his designates also have decision-making authority for particular categories of residence and work permits.

The Department of Immigration has its headquarters in Grand Cayman, though there is also an office in Cayman Brac. The Department also operates Visa Offices in Jamaica and Honduras.
