CIATCA | Refresher Training
Published on Apr 2, 2015
Air Traffic Controllers in the Cayman Islands are required to complete refresher training every year. At present we attend the Pan Am International Flight Academy in Miami Florida. Training lasts for one week and involves theoretical work in classrooms, reviewing new practices and procedures, in addition to practical sim sessions and examinations. Theory includes walk throughs of emergency procedures, regarding certain incidents, appreciation of new global laws and governing procedures, in addition to discussions of factors affecting our operations in the Cayman Islands.
Each controller completes multiple simulator sessions where their performance is evaluated and their performance critiqued, the week finishes with examinations. Refresher Training is a much looked forward event by all controllers, allowing the opportunity to see each other outside of the office environment and learn more about our profession together.
